Works for me! July 31, 2010 Matt It is light, ergo portable and easy to use once you understand the controls. Have had to use it in a doc's waiting room, an auto repair shop waiting room, and also around the house. Only limit is what you can find on Amazon unless you have books in PDF form and know how to convert them. Highly recommend the cover to protect it. Only layout suggestion I would make is to have the 'page back' button moved (or another button added) from upper left side to lower left so that a reader could hit that button while the kindle is held in the cover. As it is, to back up a page means reaching across with the right hand or letting the cover go with the left. No big deal, but if you're going to put 'next page' on both sides....
I believe that I was treated unfairly by Amazon.com!! July 31, 2010 Ann Reagan 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Approximately three weeks ago I purchased this Kindle from your company. Now you put it on sale for $40 less. You had to have that price reduction in the works when I purchased it and yet did not give me the opportunity to take advantage of it. I have been a customer of Amazon.com for many years and I don't feel that you dealt fairly with me on this transaction. I feel like your company cheated me and certainly did not reflect my expectations of fair dealing from your company!
A Kindle Convert July 31, 2010 Joy The Kindle is an exceptional device that I resisted for too long. While it was often recommended to me because I am an avid reader, I always rejected the idea feeling I would miss holding the actual book, smelling the paper and turning the pages. With a long term trip to Europe looming in the distance, I was troubled by the number of books I would need to pack to satisfy my reading for a month. Thus the thought of the Kindle purchase became more palatable. I am a bit embarrassed to say that it took no time to make me a convert. The device is extraordinary. I love being able to adjust the font size to make reading easier rather than searching for those ever misplaced reading glasses. The voice to text, while not always available, is an exceptional tool for road trips. The volume control allows for whole family listening, and the head phones allow for private listening when preferred. As a teacher I highly recommend this to students with reading challenges. Listening while reading along allows for independent learning for those who often require assistance that impedes independence. I especially like the easy access to the dictionary when needed and the highlighting and annotating capabilities. While I do wish the keyboard was a bit smaller and easier to manipulate, I highly recommend this e-reader over other devices. I appreciate its single purpose to be used as a reader without distractions and its particularly user friendly design. Finally, I must add the service is extraordinarily prompt, and courteous. I am delighted with my Kindle and never leave home without it.
They didn't think this thru July 31, 2010 Disappointed in Kindle 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to tell you when it comes to reading my books on the Kindle I think its out of this world. But on days like today where I am trying to decide on what title or what genre I want to read today... I'm ready to ask for my money back. When you go to a library you use a card catalog which allows you to look up your books by 1)Title 2) Genre 3)Author and books are shelved in these catagories and sub catagories. Even looking up books on Amazon.com you seperate as to genre. This most recent addition way of keeping track of your books is enough to make me want to go back to reading paper books and getting a refund. The demographic that you are selling to are avid readers who read more then just type of book, who once prodded would agree that in this aspect we do not have our monies worth in the Kindle product for all the price and hype. This should be a very simple computerized upgrade. And should have been part of your original design. Organization is at the most basic of all creative functions. And for the price I would have thought, I did think, this would have been part of the KINDLE.
nice device and selection, but multiple failures July 31, 2010 K. Shaw (Martinsburg, WV United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a gift for someone else because of the selection and variety of ebooks in categories they like. However; within the first day using it, the screen failed, prompting a return. Now; a second device has failed within a couple days of her using it; and this replacement is costing. The devices have gone to the house and the pool; not having been dropped or gotten wet at all. Not happy with two in a row having issues, kinda dissappointed in the QA process for the hardware.
